My Feelings.

Salam!

Bismillah

To all of those people who think it is more "liberating" to wear a bikini than an Abaya:

Have you ever worn an abaya by choice?

I have worn both. I feel like that makes my opinion more valid on this subject.

My advice to you...

DON'T KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU TRY IT!

You can feel sorry for me if you want, but be sure that I'm feeling sorry for you and your women.

Here's my 2 cents. You will get stared at for wearing either one in public. That said, I would rather have my clothes stared at than have my body stared at :-)

Yes that is exactly the point! :-)

I try to be pretty calm about this stuff... but sometimes I just get all riled up.

I read all those comments on articles and pictures and blogs about how Muslim women who wear Abaya are oppressed and I don't want to sit and have an argument there with them to tell them about how wrong they are.

So this is my answer.

Does it come off really rude? :-/ I don't want it to be rude.

Stacy aka Fahiima made a very good point!

I love my abaya, so what if a guy is looking at me if there's nothing left of me for him to see..
Great post Sister! :)

I have always been shocked when seeing bikinis in public. I think pointing out that this attention is negative isn't overly harsh. There's not much difference with a Christian woman who wears loose clothing and an abaya. Unfortunately, some women have learned to thrive on male attention and cat calls.

I agree that this could be the same for any item of modest clothing, I was just addressing the one that fits me most closely.

I know Christians who will even look down on other Christians who dress modestly, not only Muslims. It isn't "popular" to dress modestly.

I use to think the cat calls were vaguely amusing and maybe a little bit annoying. Now they pretty much just disgust me...

SubhanAllah it's amazing how people's points-of-view change.

LOL I love the picture

I think more women would want to wear an abaya if they tried it. In a perfect world its what I would wear every day. Unfortunately, its a little weird in the US :)

BTW I cant believe it took me this long to realize you have a blog!
