How to Hijab: Introduction

Salam!

Bismillah

So I decided to go ahead and do it since I had some time to put it together.

This is a pictorial guide to how I transitioned from jeans and t-shirts to full on hijab/jilbab/abaya wearing awesomeness :-P

Alhamdulillah it was quite the process and I will walk you through it inshaAllah!

THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT ANY KIND OF HIJAB.

This is where I started. Jeans, t-shirts, hoodies with pushed up sleeves. Typical college wardrobe, really.

This is how I still dress in private. I still have my massive t-shirt collection, lol. I don't wear jeans as much as I use to, but they are still a staple in my wardrobe.

When I'm with the ladies, I try be a little bit more put together now. Like maybe I will wear a real blouse and a cardigan or something. Since I'm 23 now and everything... lol. I also usually wont wear tight or revealing clothes around other women.

Same here, I wear a khimar and jilbab (or the equivalent using a long dress or long skirt), but I always wear a long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans or sweatpants underneath. I just don't feel like I'm dressed unless I'm wearing these things. It's the best of both worlds; I fulfill the requirements for hijab and jilbab, and I get to wear what I'm most comfortable in. :)

It definitely didn't happen right away for me, either. After I started learning about Islam (but before I converted), I swapped all my t-shirts and shorts for long sleeves and jeans. After converting I started wearing longer shirts and then donned the khimar everywhere outside of class. Then my pants and sleeves started to get looser, then I started wearing the khimar full-time. Later I started wearing more skirts and jilbabs, and now I am a full-time jilbab (or the equivalent) wearer, Alhamdulillah. It took me a long time to come to this, but Alhamdulillah I came to it on my own time. No one should feel pressured or forced to dress a certain way, because I believe it's an act of worship between ALLAH and a person, and there is no compulsion in religion.

Rene: wa alaikum salam, Great minds wear t-shirts right? :-P

Anne: Alhamdulillah yeah you are really right. I'm hoping this series doesn't come off as preachy, but I tried to make sure that everyone knows that this is how it worked for ME, you know? Especially in the end when I start talking about what my views are on jilbab/khimar etc.

hijabrockers: I don't dress this way in public now as I don't consider this to be proper hijab. I don't post my picture on the internet either, sorry! I really completely on polyvore for my visuals :-P
