Umm... Thanks?

Salam!

So what do you say when someone tells you that you look better in hijab than you did without? Do you say thank you? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of hijab? Should I take it back off, lol?

Ah well, I know they mean well and want to encourage me. Their intention isn't to hit on me, so I say thank you.

I have had people tell me that when I was wearing a hijab too. I think that the scarf just suits some faces better. Besides that, I just always wear my hair pulled back unless I'm going to a wedding or something, so the hijab looks better than my hair would have. Take it as a complement I guess! Are you wearing full time already, or just trying to get comfortable with wearing hijab?

wearing full time, yeah i take it as a compliment. Like I said I think they are just trying to be supportive.

I usually keep mine back in a ponytail as well, lol.

I am impressed with your decision to cover full time already! I love hijab, but don't wear it all that much because, first I haven't reverted, second, sometimes I am too self-conscious I guess. I know I got some weird looks when I visited SC and GA wearing hijab. Congrats on your decision and I hope you keep sharing your insights.

Salam Ever,
Oh I am really pleased to hear you are wearing the Hijab full time. MashaAllah.
Yes it is a compliment, and by you wearing scarf it is covering your beauty, as a girl's beauty lies in her hair! ;-) Hope u are well.

My husband says that to me too, when I've worn it overseas. He said "Oh, you look so cute!"
I was like "Um... isnt that the whole point, that I not look cute??..."
It does seem confusing.

It's a bit of a weird comment to say! But I would take it as a compliment, I guess! It's not a bad thing to look good. I don't think you're attracting the wrong kind of attention wearing hijab so it's all good! I've had someone tell me that in Egypt too! I think it's a way to tell me it's better for me to wear it and all that. If a non-Muslim told me that, I'd think there was really something wrong with the way I normally looked!

Salam Satcy,
Yes I felt a little the same way before I converted. I wanted to wear it full time, but felt a little awkward doing so. But now, Alhamdulillah I'm very comfortable and plan on keeping it up, inshaAllah.

Salam Rayyan,
;-)Thank you sister for your encouragement. Love you for the pleasure of Allah.

Salam Faith in Writing,
haha yes, maybe it's just our *inner* beauty that becomes so obvious when we're covered. :-D

Salam Candice,
Yes I think also the person who is saying it would definitely make a difference. I know the people who said this to me well and they were also all Muslim so this influenced the intent behind it. I do enjoy the encouragement :-)
