Matthew 19:16-17

السلام عليكم

بسم الله

16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

This brings up a lot of questions and thoughts for me.

1. If Jesus=God and God=Good then why would Jesus object to being called Good?
2. If the only way to get eternal life to to accept that Jesus=God, then why does Jesus say that to get eternal life we should keep the commandments?
3. If Jesus=God and this is what is most important, then why does he go out of his way NOT say that?

There is so much in the Bible that I do agree with (almost 100% of which are basic tenants of Islam) but there are these really glaring things that just keep me completely baffled.

Why base a religion on a central idea that is supposed to be supported by a text that contradicts that idea?

These are by Pucci. The bubble head hijab TOTALLY cracks me up. Apparently these are supposed to be designs for 60s flight attendants. Who knew?

Ladies Night!

This is what I might wear to a ladies night, like if it was a fancy party, lol. Do I ever go to fancy parties? no. But if I did, I might rock something like this. But preferably with my shoulders covered.

Each side offers a bit different look, with the right side being more subdued (but still cool).
Which do you like?

The Big Boycott

السلام عليكم

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Sister Sara at Princess Hegab wrote a post about Boycotting Israel and what our role should be as Muslim brothers and sisters of those suffering in Palestine. Jazakillah khair sister Sara for starting this incredibly important conversation!

This really got me thinking and I just wanted to share some of my thoughts here.

I feel as if there is a fine line between a personal choice to boycott and public accusation. I don't want to cross that line because I think, in the end, I do not want to stand in front of Allah subhana wa ta'ala and have on my list slander of a group of people. If I don't have firm evidence, I am not willing to point fingers.

This does not meant that I am not willing to boycott, because I think that Sara brought up a really great point that in this day and age and the society that we are in now, our money gives us a lot of power. This is of course secondary to the power that we have through prayer and belief in Allah ta'ala, but it is a means to help the situation.

If for my own personal reason I decide to boycott a company who I do not a firm evidence for, I don't think it is right to openly and publicly accuse that company and encourage others to do the same. However if I do know that a company or group is definitely supporting Isreal, I feel that it is my DUTY to pass on that information.

I do know that it is my responsibility to do what I can to help support my brothers and sisters in Islam. As such, I remind myself and all of you to keep our Palestinian brothers and sisters in your du'a and to contribute financially to relief funds if you are able. Also for those of us in the US, please write to your representatives and encourage your neighbors, friends, and family to do so as well. Let them know that we condemn what the Israelis are doing and that we do not appreciate our tax money going to support that kind of injustice!

This site provides contact information for our representatives, from state level to the President. You can even tweet your representatives now!

This site links to Islamic Relief who are still working desperately to help the Palestinians. It gives background information on the situation there and how to donate inshaAllah.

I would also like to point out that not every Jew is Israel and Israel does not represent every Jew. Keep that in mind, as the People of the Book deserve respect as other groups who were given revelation by Allah Ta'ala

So after I thought about this I prayed and wondered, Ya Allah how will I know who to boycott if this is the right thing for me? I had no idea how I would know who was supporting Israel and who wasn't.

SubhanAllah I got really bad heartburn today and I got a pill from the drawer to take for it. I looked at the back of the package and what did it say?!?

"Manufacutured in Israel"

Right on the foil!

So I thought, AHA, I have the answer!

And as is my duty, I will pass that information to you.

This was the "equate" brand version of Pepcid, the heartburn medication. I would say that it is pretty safe to boycott all equate brand products, sold at Wal-Mart.

I couldn't get a picture of it because the camera on my phone wont take such close ups and the writing is small, but inshaAllah when I get my other camera, I will take a picture and update this post.

If any of you have evidence about any other group or product that supports Israel or is made in Israel, I ask you to let me know and let others know!

Questions from Banana Anne!

As-salamu alaikum

Bismillah Ar-rahman Ar-raheem

So one of my FAVORITE bloggers, Anne, just asked these questions at her blog This is Not Clever. MashaAllah isn't that a clever title? ;-)

Anyway, it sounded like fun and so I thought I would post here and ask you guys the same questions after I answer.

Favorite beverage and why?: It is a tie between Pepsi and this stuff called Klass Aguas Frescas in Mango flavored. We have a sizable Hispanic population where we live, so a lot of my favorite snacks reflect that. They have the best galletas!! :-)

Favorite place you've traveled to and why: I haven't really gotten to travel anywhere outside of the US :-( however, I have been to quite a few states and I must say that Vermont and Pennsylvania are just lovely during the summer.

Favorite cartoon strip: Mmmm.... I haven't really read the funnies in a long time. There was one that I use to like a lot, but I can't remember what the name is. InshaAllah if I find it I will let you know :-P

Favorite Surahs from the Qur'an (if you have any) and why: Sura Ar-Rahman is my all time favorite. If you go to the Qur'an app over ~~> there you can listen to Ahmed Al-Ajmy who is my favorite reciter for this sura, mashaAllah.

If you were forced to move to a Muslim majority country, where would you want to go?: I think i would move to Saudi. There are a lot of reasons: first, it would be lovely to be near the Masjid al-Haram and Masjid An-Nabi. Second, I don't like to drive HAHA. Third, the majority of the people in my community here are from Saudi and I really like and appreciate their values and culture and feel comfortable in that atmosphere.

Favorite type of meat (or if you're vegetarian, favorite non-meat dish) and why?: I like beef and lamb. The majority of the halal meat we can get here is chicken and lamb, so I eat a lot of that. :-)

Worst movie you've ever seen: I really prefer to block these things out of my mind, lol. I know that I have watched some pretty awful movies in my time, but thankfully they all escape my memory at this point.

Did you sleep with a stuffed animal/security blanket when you were a kid? What was it/what was its name? Do you still sleep with it now? No I never really had a specific animal or blanket that I slept with. Although my mother said that I was particularly attached to my toes. I would play with them and chew on them and hold them, lol.
