Salam!
Is it just me, or does it seem like thin people can get away with wearing less fabric but still look incredibly modest...?!? I mean... I have to wear layers and layers and a super wide shayla to get everything covered. I mean alhamdulillah for the body that I have of course, but I think that maybe it would be a little easier to be modest if my body was more cooperating. It is even difficult for me to find a shayla or scarf that is actually wide enough to provide total coverage. And Turkish hijab? I will never be able to wear it... Sometimes I wish I could try other hijab styles, but I pretty much just have to stick to one.
Oh anyways, me just being silly. I like the way layers look and if I wrap the sayla just right I can leave a big chunk hanging down, so really no harm done. :-P
I you are wondering what brought this on... I recieved a hijab as a gift from one of the ladies at the masjid when I converted. MashaAllah she is so very sweet. Anyway, it is a very nice light airy hijab in a dusky pink and I would DEARLY love to wear it, but it just isn't enough to give good coverage... but maybe I will layer it with another scarf or something... inshaAllah I will find a way. :-D

You could use it like an underscarf tied in the spanish hijab style and wear a black or dark brown over it. Also, you can get big cotton sarongs that provide a lot of coverage and are good for summer too.
Does your family know that you converted yet?
I wore Turkish scarf for a very long time, and just made sure it was a bigger square. But I totally understand because Turkish scarves are in general teeny tiny.
Inshallah maybe you can still wear the dusky pink one with another one underneath. And a very good skull cap with your ponytail tied up under it.
I also love layers and I'm just glad they are in style now :) Good luck, inshallah it will get easier. Pixie has great tutorials inshallah. Love you.
Salam Stacy~
My mom knows, but my dad and brother do not. My dad does know that I cover though and is totally fine with it, alhamdulillah.
Salam Lisa~
I actually wore the pink one today! I put another under and then left a large part hanging and pulled it to my shoulder and pinned it so that it covered. Alhamdulillah I'm realy glad it worked out!
I'm glad that your family seems supportive so far. It will make such a difference.
It's true! Some people just have more curves and so need more fabric and more looseness to adequately cover everything, and some people can wear pants and not look shapely because they simply dont have much of a shape to hide! Two women wearing the same thing can be on different modesty levels for sure. A busty girl and a tank top might look sexy or even promiscuous but a skinny boobless one with a tank top could look kinda modest!
Salam Stacy,
Yes it has been really great so far, alhamdulillah. We've gone shopping and other things and I've been covered and my dad hasn't minded.
Salam Candice,
Lol, yes exactly!!!
